Common problems in left-handed golfers:

What are these names?

Physical therapists and physicians typically name motions of the body according to
biomechanical
conventions.  Rotation is twisting.  Internal and external rotation refer to the midline of the body.

So,
hip internal rotation is twisting your hip in, like a right-handed golfers' left leg.

Handedness is so important in rehabilitating the injured golfer because your swing is constant and
repetitive.  You begin to develop patterns of movement that are predictable, based on which way you
typically hit the golf ball.

Physical therapists have discovered that simple exercises designed to improve those patterns are
often sufficient to prevent injury.

Once the golfer is injured, however, the physical therapist may also need to use traditional physical
therapy techniques such as ultrasound, massage, stretching or ice.
The golf swing is similar to baseball and tennis  - every player has a characteristic swing.  Changing
your swing is hard to do and, perhaps, unnecessary.

What is necessary is to correctly train the muscles, mainly legs and abdominals, to allow you to play
golf with power and safety.

These physical therapy exercise videos are primarily to educate you on simple, effective exercises you
can use at home...

  • prior to the golf game
  • after the golf game
  • to assist in your rehabilitation from injury
  • to prevent injury
